Marta Haratyk maiden name Juroszek, born on 7.03.1944 lives in Koniaków is now, without doubt, one of the most experienced Koniaków lace makers. She started crocheting at the age of 10, and was taught by a three-year older cousin Zuzanna Legierska and a friend Teresa Bujok. Learning crocheting used to be a fun for them, only later had it become a way of life and real art making. At the age of 36 Marta became a member of the Folk and Artist Handicraft Centre in Katowice. She has taken part in a number of competitions, exhibitions and fairs of folk art as well as festivals where she could present her lace doilies, runners, dresses and collars. In 1994 (on 31.12) Marta Haratyk obtained a certificate from the National Artistic and Ethnographic Commission Cepelia - Polish Art and Handicraft Foundation in Katowice for a Koniaków lace blouse. A lot of her lace works adorns church altars and elements of vestments for priests (stoles and albs), sent also abroad, mainly to Germany and America.
Marta Haratyk has been a lace maker appreciated by Cepelia, e.g. she represented the foundation at the number of Folk Art Fairs in Częstochowa, Warsaw, Chorzów, Katowice, Opole. The artist has been awarded three distinctions, among others on the 40 th anniversary of Cepelia and in 1989 (on 29.09) a distinction for a deserved cooperative movement activist. She constantly cooperates with The Museum of Koniaków Lace with Zuzanna Gwarek. She has taken part in competitions held by the Regional Culture Centre in Bielsko-Biała and the Istebna Culture Centre.
Her greatest artistic achievement is creating the biggest Koniaków Lace Tablecloth , a doily with a diameter of 5 metres, listed in the Guinness Book of Records on 18 August 2013. Marta Haratyk has designed the giant lace doily, all the elements and composition are her merit. She was leading the team of 5 lace makers who were crocheting the lace for 5 months (from April to August 2013)
Together with her three daughters Danuta Krasowska, Mariola Legierska, Renata Krasowska and a friend Urszula Rybka, they have crocheted the biggest masterpiece in the history of Koniaków lacemaking as part of a project carried out by the Culture Centre in Istebna and financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
