The biggest Koniaków Lace was made in 2013. Lucyna Ligocka-Kohut from the Istebna Culture Centre is the author and initiator of the biggest doily and of the idea to enter it to the Guiness Book of Records. She managed to obtain the necessary funds from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. With Zuzanna Gwarek from the Koniaków Lace Museum and Maria Gwarek’s Memorial Room, Lucyna Ligocka-Kohut completed the perfect team, namely Marta Haratyk with her three daughters Renata Krasowska, Danuta Krasowska, Mariola Legierska and their friend Urszula Rybka. The Lace was supposed to be round with 5 metres diameter.
The biggest doily was designed by Marta Haratyk, who invented all the elements, composition and finishes of the whole. It took them over 5 months (from April to August 2013) to complete the work. The ladies were crocheting (heklowały) at Mrs Marta’s house in a small room, which posed an additional difficulty as they were not able to spread the doily completely. The doily has been made with Turkish cream cotton thread size # 50. More than 50 km of the thread has been used and it weighs 5 kg. The biggest doily measures 5 metres in diameter.
The record doily contains 20 rows. Each row up to 1,6m is made up of 24 flowers-motifs, and above – up to 5 m is made up of 48 flowers. In the centre of the doily i.e. in the middle there are such motifs as: 1) słonecznik sunflower 2) gesiorek small daisy pattern 3) serduszka hearts 4) pięciornik potentilla 5) chłopki ‘little men’ 6) żeberka ‘little ribs’ 7) żeberka z grubego warkoczka na listku, ‘thick plait little ribs on a leaf’ 8) jagodniki (3listki) blueberry 3 leaves 9) dzwonek bell 10) czereśnie na liściach sweet cherries on leaves 11) młynek little mill with double finishes.

There are 20 rows in total.
After completing the Biggest Koniaków Lace in August, two weeks before the Koniaków Lace Days Festival 2013, when the Koniaków Lace was to be officially unveiled, the doily was moved to the fire station building in Koniaków Centre. There it had to be ironed first and then sewn on a piece of non-woven fabric to have some dark background.
On 18 August 2013 during the Koniaków Lace Days Festival the doily was first presented to the public and entered into the Guiness Book of Records. The Lace is the property of the Culture Centre in Istebna where it can usually be admired.

„Lacy Visegrad II”
A small village of Bobowa in the south of Poland for more than 17 years has been the real centre of bobbin lace! Every year there are numbers of lace makers from all over Europe and even other parts of the world. Lace makers from Koniaków were also there, represented by Mariola Wojtas and Lucyna Bytow, together with Aneta Legierska and Lucyna Ligocka-Kohut of the Istebna Culture Centre. Koniaków artists attended the Festival for the second time.
The project has been carried out with partners from three Visegrad Group countries, namely from Czech, Slovakia and Hungary.

The aim of the project is to enhance knowledge about traditions, culture and folk art of Koniaków crochet lace and its promotion. Koniaków crochet lace is a type of handicraft i.e. crocheting lace doilies with thin cotton thread which can be found in Koniaków, a village located in the Istebna Municipality in the Silesia Beskid, the south of Poland. We want to show that our beautiful lace works are not only useful but they can also be a passion and inspiration. The Biggest Koniaków Lace in the World was made in 2013 and it is now listed in the Guinness Book of Records. 5 metres in diameter it is a unique piece of art which enables us to present our handicraft in a wonderful way.
The record was to crochet the biggest Koniaków lace doily in the world with 5 metres in diameter made with cotton thread floss. This unique piece of art was made by a team of five lace makers, including: Marta Haratyk (71) the team leader and designer of the lace doily, Danuta Krasowska (51), Renata Krasowska (49), Mariola Legierska (47) and Urszula Rybka (57) from Koniaków. The lace makers were crocheting the round doily with 5 metres diameter composed of about 8 thousand elements from April to August 2013. The course of work was supervised by the initiator of the record, Lucyna Ligocka-Kohut from the Istebna Culture Centre. The record breaking was possible owing to a project finansed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage that was carried out by the Istebna Culture Centre.
